Color with me – Mermaid from Sagor och Sägner, day one

New color along, anyone? Yes? How about a mermaid this time? YES? Well who am I to resist you 😀 This time we’ll work together on the Mermaid from Sagor och Sägner by the lovely Emelie Lidehäll Öberg (interview with her HERE by the way, if you haven’t read it). So without further ado, sharpen your pencils, ready, set, GO!

Stuff used on day one:

It’s really fun to work on skin tones other than well.. skin tone, specially when it’s as crazy as this one. It’s not harder by any means, I’d say it’s simpler really because you have zero pressure to create a realistic result. As long as you understand the anatomy of a face and how the light and shadow work, you’re good to go in any color. And if you don’t, well, then practice, follow examples and it will become clearer through practice.

So yeah, no real tricks here today, just have fun, splash around some colors, feel free to go even wilder with colors, make her into a little rainbowy iridescent mermaid if you will.

End result of day one:

Next we’ll tackle the fish and flowers and then the water. This will hopefully be in three parts instead of the usual four but we’ll see how it goes!

All parts of this tutorial:
Day one – skin, hair
Day two – leaves, water lilies, first fish
Day three – fish, water, bubbles, finishing touches
