Color with me – Nested from Tidevarv, day one

I promised you Tidevarv and here, Tidevarv!

Due to technical issues I was trying out a simpler setup with my drawing table but it’s angled and at a window which caused several interesting issues.
For one, the angle might seem a bit odd (though might not, depends on the person I suppose). Then there’s the fun fact that the camera shakes a bit since I’m sitting under the tripod and accidentally bumping into it occasionally. And last, the daylight changed midway through this so in the end, you have a LOT of sun to look at, sorry about that.
Anyway I don’t think I can do it this way, which saddens me since it was truly a lot easier to do then my usual setup, plus I got to listen to Critical Role while coloring. No idea what I’m talking about? No worries, you don’t have to, it’s not a coloring thing.

Anyway on to business!

Stuff used on day one:
Prismacolor Premier (set of 150)
Pencils listed in order of appearance. Feel free to use other pencils and/or replace some colorways entirely with something else you like

  • Light Peach
  • Nectar
  • Sepia
  • Blush Pink
  • Pink
  • Slate Grey
  • Cream
  • Dahlia Purple
  • Hot Pink
  • Yellow Ochre
  • Deco Pink
  • Colorless blender
  • Sandbar Brown
  • Sand
  • Dark Purple

Don’t be afraid to add more color to the face and hair, it’s not supposed to be 100% realistic, you can add whatever you want to the image and have it come out looking super cool.

End result of day one:

Next time we might take a second look at the hair (or might not, we’ll see) and we’ll start working on all the stuff in her hair so stay tuned!

All parts of this tutorial:
Day one – skin, hair
Day two – flowers, berries, leaves
Day three – nest, eggs, gems, garment
Day four – bird, eyes, background
