Yes, I too now finally own Magical Jungle by Johanna Basford. It took its sweet time getting here, by this point even our stores already carry it (which is mindblowing).
The newest addition to Johannas books, Magical Jungle, is all about the jungle, as you might guess from the name as well. The images are all the same style and aesthetics we all have come to know and love. I would actually love it if Johanna would do something urban next, houses and such. Would love to see how she does that in addition to her famous leaves and animals and nature in general.
What I love about this book, there are double page spreads BUT they are printed in such a manner that the binding does not interrupt anything and you don’t have to creep into it to catch some tiny leaf or something. I love that. Seriously. More of this please, everyone!
The paper is the same paper we all know and love, thick and creamy and gorgeous.
Now I must admit, I’m no jungle expert. I don’t even know what most of these things are called to google for reference pictures so I’m a little intimidated by this book. But the images are truly fantastic.
In the end there are a few separate illustrations that are on one side of the paper and perforated so you can easily take them out. My most favorite out of all of these is there, the flamingos.
I am definitely looking forward to coloring something in this book but I figured I’ll thow my two cents in before I get to it because my queue of requests is a mile long by this point, I wouldn’t get to this book for a while otherwise.
Anyway. What I don’t like about this book? Um.. that I don’t know what half of these creatures and flowers are and that’s my own personal problem, obviously. Other than that, nothing. It’s great, much better then Lost Ocean that had quite a few pictures that were way too fiddly.
Plus it has some coloring tips in the beginning and medium test page at the back, love those extras.

Overall, thumbs up! Do get this if you liked her previous books.
And in other news, cross your fingers, I might be getting a solution to my lighting issue tomorrow and then we’ll get to color together with Inktense. I’m currently thinking on which picture to choose for you guys so that most of you have it. Maybe one of Johannas books? If you have any requests, please feel free to comment on this post or drop me an e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org. I love hearing from you all, the e-mails you send me never fail to make me smile 🙂
